Tim Holgate is Program Manager for TryAngle, Ilex’s rugby initiative. Tim grew up in Tring, and played for both Tring School and Rugby Club, before joining London Irish for 3 seasons. At Southampton University he captained the 1st XV and represented England Students. Now 26, Tim plays on the wing for Tring’s league-winning 1s. The highlight of his rugby career was being in the New Zealand 7s squad for the final of the World Series against England in June 2004. Cricket: Toby Wastling is local student who joined Tring Park Cricket Club when he was eight, batting and bowling for all age groups. Toby now plays with the big boys in Tring’s League sides, and is an ECB Level 2 coach. "Extra Cover gives young people an excellent opportunity to learn the cricketing skills needed to gain an understanding and enjoyment of the game. I wish I’d had this opportunity when I was a younger player".
Cricket: Gareth Darby is a well-known figure in Tring cricket, having played 1st XI cricket at Tring in the Thames Valley and Home Counties Premier League since 1994. “Many of the current generation of parents didn’t play cricket at school - the space Extra Cover fills is essential now to introduce the game to young people. Cricket, like rugby, teaches young people the wonderful social lesson that sports can be very competitive, but builds friendships and respect for opponents that can last a lifetime.”
Rugby and Cricket: Giles Wallis was educated at Berkhamsted Collegiate School where he was captain of the 1st XV in 1998, and represented Hertfordshire at all levels in both rugby and cricket. Giles is now a first team member at Tring Rugby Football Club and has received his full county honours for both Middlesex and Hertfordshire.
